Straightening twisted limbs

There are many methods used to straighten twisted limbs. I do not recommend any method that uses an open flame I have used the hot water method to successfully straighten limbs. What I do was to check to be sure the laminations are not dentes and unsealed.. This will allow water to enter the laminations and swell the wood. This can cause permanent damage to the limbs. If you decide to use this method, unstring the bow. Mark the direction of the limb twist with a washable marker or a piece of tape on the limb that is twisted. If possible try to determine where the twist is on the limb. Some are on the tip and others are up towards the center of the limb. Heat the limb by holding it under the hot water stream for several minutes. Grab the twisted limb and twist it in the opposite direction of the twist. Use light pressure at first, too much can cause damage and ruin the limb. Let the limb cool and string the bow. Check the limb and repeat the process using more or less twisting pressure, depending on the results of the first attempt. Not all bows can be straightened. Not all straightened bows stay straight. There are other more drastic methods of straightening a twisted limb, but if the twist is that bad, I just put it up and look at it .
